hi im doing a task at school about contemporary dance and i would like to know
-the history of contempory dance, including whty it emerged?
-Pioneers of modern dance; techniques and styles they created and used. why were they pioneers?
-the influences of the time, what compelled these pioneers to create such diverse and contriversial dance works?

I used to take dance lessons when I was in middle school. In high school I was on the Winter and Color Guard squad. But since I have been out of school I haven't had a chance to move my body like I used to. I have recently become a fan of So You Think you Can Dance and it has reminded me of how happy I was when I was dancing and so have started to miss my dancing and movement years. I live in a small town and don't have a lot of money but I can't stop thinking about the joy I felt while dancing. I have thought about renting or buying a dance video but most of the ones that I have seen are hiphop or salsa and I would really like Contemporary. I have also thought about free dancing to my music but I don't know where to begin. My question is: Does anyone have any other ideas about how I could satisfy this urge to dance? Any instruction books, or videos for inspiration, or website would be very helpful.
Could someone please explain the differences between contemporary and modern dance for me?

I am a 16 year old girl and have been dancing since i was two. I love watching So You Think You Can Dance, but can't help feel that for the years that I have danced, it hasn't amounted to much. I take ballet and modern and have had some jazz, but contemporary has been drawing me in. I'm in a small community and I don't know how to satisfy my desire to really embrace my dancing and take it to a new level.
